Colorful Asiatown

A few moments from the Asian Festival held in Cleveland's Asiatown neighborhood yesterday.   I was mesmerized by the intricate details and colors in the Indian costumes.  Great day.  Good times.

Pucker Up

These are Lemon Cedros (aka, citron).  They look like an enormous lemon and taste like a bitter grapefruit.   Just sprinkle a little sugar (zucchero) on it and it eat like an orange slice.  Oh, those crazy Italians.

Yes, that's my foot in the lower left.

These shots were taken with, you guessed it, the iPhone 4.  My plan is to start looking at my camera shots this weekend.

Cedro at happy hour.  Not so perfectly paired with red wine.

I wanted to share this Chase Jarvis project with you.  For those who don't know him, Chase is a well known and very successful photographer.  The cool thing about Chase is that he loves to share what he knows and he's not hung up about equipment or traditional, rigid thinking about photography.   He's invited us to participate in his recent "snapshot" project.  All of us!  I'm challenging myself to submit a snapshot a day for the 30 days of the project.  I thought maybe you'd like to play along too.

"The German word Dasein has been used by Heidegger and numerous other philosophers to refer to raw human existence -- the fundamental mode of “being there.” When applied to photography, this everyday-ness is most revealed by the snapshot.
Over time and without our knowledge, the snapshot has become the most meaningful visual storyboard we have of simply “being” in the world. The snapshot is pure, direct, unmediated expression and, refreshingly, it lacks academic influence or vogue. At once a celebration of life and a reminder of our mortality, the snapshot awakens us to realize that we each have a limited number of these discrete, fleeting moments in our lives.
When aggregated, snapshots readily precipitate a simple, yet profound, matter of “being there”, that irrevocably reflects what it means to be human." ~ Chase Jarvis

Gastronomical Galavanting

Eating on vacation was like getting a warm dough-y hug from your grandmother 3 times (or more) a day.  Their secret... Fresh daily everything. Make the bread and the pasta today.  Pick the veggies and herbs today.  Eat the food today.  Simple.  Uncomplicated.  Traditional.  Heaven.

Oh, and wine with every meal except breakfast.  You have Bellinis with breakfast (duh).

Photos by iPhone 4 and me.

When my friends are happy, I'm happy.  When they're gleeful, well, it can be down right embarrassing.

Full of jubilant delight; joyful.

On a ferry somewhere between the Italian Coast and the Isle of Capri.

Photo shot with magical iPhone 4.

A Lullaby

Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby. ~Langston Hughes

The rain simply magnified the beauty of Positano.  It didn't stop us.  It simply "forced" us under brightly colored umbrellas and inside to eat more pasta and drink more wine.   And then we got our revenge, we napped.

All photos taken with the iPhone 4.

Pretty Little Positano

I dunno. What needs to be said?  This was home base for our trip.  Go ahead, look up "charming" in the dictionary and you'll probably see a picture of this place.  She's a beauty.

And how about that iPhone 4? Damn!

Ravello On My Mind

I've started to sort through my iPhone photos.  I'm going slowly and trying to savor the moments that perhaps went by too quickly while there.  I'm grateful today as I was that day for the gentleman that referred us to the villa & gardens that took our breath away.  He said the walk was tough but worth it.  He was right.  Many, many steps, stairs, and rolling dips later, I still thank him.  More on Ravello and the villa later.

Back to work for me today.  Have a good Tuesday.

Coming Home

I'm just back from vacation and working my way through unpacking, laundry and yard work.  I'm looking forward to sharing my vacation with you.  It's always great fun to download and dig through the images.  I'm never really confident in what I'll find but that's part of the excitement.  It's like opening 2000 + gifts. (YIKES!)

More soon.  Hope you're well.
